Biggest and heaviest of the Harriers, and also the darkest, it can also be taken for a dark Buzzard when soaring. The Male does have some grey in its plumage, although it is much browner then a Male Hen Harrier. The Female is chocolate brown above with cream head markings. A juvenile Male is almost identical, however it has no cream wing patch. Marsh Harriers hunt in classic Harrier fashion, patrolling slowly at low level with wings raised in a “V” when gliding, then it will drop into reeds or long grass to seize their prey.
